MEL Student Lucky Garg awarded SNAME Scholarship

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) has awarded Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) student Lucky Garg the Wilbur N. Landers Graduate Scholarship for Advanced Study in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, and Ocean Engineering. Open to SNAME members, this scholarship awards $4000 USD towards a year of study to candidates pursing Master’s-level education in maritime fields such as naval architecture, marine engineering, and ocean engineering. It is bestowed annually in memory of the late Captain Wilbur N. Landers, long-time Secretary of SNAME and a strong supporter of their scholarship program. Founded in 1893, SNAME is a leading international organization in the marine industry, and works to support members’ professional development and maritime research around the world.

Garg joins the MEL in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering program at UBC after six years in the maritime industry as a marine navigational officer with Pacific International Lines (PIL) in Singapore. Before his work with PIL, he completed an undergraduate degree in Nautical Technology at the Tolani Maritime Institute of India’s Birla Institute of Technology and Science, where he studied ship operation and marine engineering. By joining the MEL in NAME, Garg aims to enhance his strong background in the marine industry the with the unique combination of engineering, leadership and business training offered by the program. With these new skills, he hopes to advance his future in ship operations and contribute to the progress of the Canadian and global maritime and shipping industry.
